Female Giving Senior Woman A Lift In CarTheme 1 of the Boston Big Local Plan provides funding to improve the health and wellbeing of local residents. One of the priorities within this theme is to support the provision of affordable transport that enables all residents to access facilities and events within the Boston Big Local area.

The delivery partner for this activity is Boston Community Transport, an organisations that aims to improve quality of life and reduce social isolation for local residents. Their membership-based community transport scheme provides a service for people who are unable to use or have difficulty with public transport. They can help with journeys that people would otherwise be unable to make, such as:

  • Medical appointments at a hospital, doctor’s surgery or with a dentist, both inside and outside of the county
  • Local shopping trips
  • Visits to a friend or relative
  • Attending community activities or a social club
  • One-off or regular trips including the library, post office, chemist or chiropodist

Here’s what some of the users of the service say about the difference it makes to them:

“I called at short notice, needing a trip for the same day. Without Boston Community Transport I wouldn’t have made my appointment. They managed to arrange a driver for me. This is a wonderful service.”

“They are always so professional and helpful on the phone and the drivers are super.”

“I am so pleased with the service you give and your drivers are so helpful. Please keep up the good work.”

“Thank you so much for collecting my prescription. I would not have been able to have it otherwise.”

Boston Community Transport has increased its membership substantially in 2017 and they are now operating longer hours to reach out to a wider user group with more availability.
