Seventy-six children aged between 5 and 13 enjoyed taking part in two multi sports days delivered by Boston United in the Community in the third quarter of 2017/18. The sessions were funded by Boston Big Local and ran during the October half term and at Christmas.
To add a little extra fun to the October session, a Halloween theme was introduced to encourage children to attend in fancy dress, with a prize for the best costume. 13 children attended on the day and took part in a range of sports such as dodgeball, hockey and capture the flag. There were also some special Halloween themed games on offer, such as Mummy Wrap and Pumpkin Smash, which proved to be very popular with the children.
For the Christmas multi-sports fun day children were encouraged to come along wearing a Christmas jumper, and there was again a prize for the best one. 70 children attended the session and they were split into four groups so that they could rotate around different stations throughout the day to take part in the various sports on offer. As well as the usual sports such as dodgeball, basketball, hockey, volleyball and futsal, participants also got the chance to have a go at hitting the snowman piƱata, which (being Christmas) was full of sweets. Boston United’s mascot, Percy the Penguin, also made a special festive appearance and joined in with some of the games.
A Boston United in the Community spokesperson said: “The Christmas session was thoroughly enjoyed by both the children and coaches and was a nice way to round off the year.”
