COMMUNITYCHESTImageBoston Big Local has recently made five community chest awards to local groups and organisations. The Community Chest is a small grants fund for residents, community groups and charities within the Boston Big Local area. Awards are available for residents who have an innovative idea that needs a cash boost to make it happen, or charities and community groups who need a little extra support to carry out their services.

The following organisations have benefited from the latest round of funding:

The Bears Coaching has been awarded £1,000. This small start-up company works with children from Boston who are aged 5 to 11 years to teach them the benefits of a healthy lifestyle through sport, particularly football. The Bears Coaching will use the Community Chest funding to improve equipment and promote their sports sessions to reach more children from the local area.

Memory Lane – Arts for Dementia Programme has been awarded £1,000 to create an attractive and vibrant, large scale mosaic, to be installed at the B&M site, close to the footbridge in the heart of the Boston Big Local area. The Memory Lane group will be involved in elements of the design and construction process so that the piece reflects their experience and emotions relating to dementia.

SMYLLE Boston is a support group for local people suffering from myeloma, lymphoma, leukaemia and other blood cancers who are undergoing treatment and in remission. Their monthly meetings provide patients with a chance to talk, listen to a speaker, take part in a quiz and enjoy the company of others. The group has received £440 of Community Chest funding to help with room hire and advertising the group within the Boston Big Local area.

Endeavour Radio Boston’s local community radio station has been awarded £1,000 to help facilitate a training and educational opportunity for young people from the Boston Big Local area to learn about the workings of a radio station.

Boston Hanse Group has received an award to help with marketing and other materials to support the first Die Hanse Day event in Boston, which will raise awareness of the historical significance of Boston.
